Project Life: Just Add Color

This is a sponsored post courtesy of Project Life and American Crafts. All opinions and ideas are 100% my own!

Sometimes I am absolutely blown away at the creativity of others. It’s fascinating to see what can come from a simple idea and how it can grow into something huge.

Take Becky Higgins, for instance. What started out as a desire to simplify memory keeping has now transformed into a popular way to scrapbook that’s sweeping not only the nation, but the world as well. Project Life has grown by leaps and bounds and since partnering with American Crafts, it has exploded.

And it all came from on little idea. Amazing.

Becky and her team have a new little idea that is going to be HUGE. Trust me on this. On September 17, Project Life will be on HSN with a new exclusive core kit, Project Life Complete Scrapbook Kit – Just Add Color Edition, that is made to coordinate perfectly with all of your Instagram and square-shaped photos!

Not only will the package deal include a full core kit packed full with 60 4×6 title cards, 20 4×6 journaling cards, 80 4×4 journaling cards, and 400 2×2 cards, you’ll also get 20 pages of coordinating card stock stickers,  HSN exclusive plastic pocket pages, and a matching album. Suh-weet!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a sampling of the kit ahead of time and I’m thrilled to be able to finally show off what I’ve been working on!

Just before school started, my sister and mom took the girl cousins on a fun girls day out. I love that the only thing I used to embellish this page were the stickers that were included in the Just Add Color kit. It seriously took the guess work out of the process because all of the pieces already coordinate and work together!

Little flags and precious little flowers made a great addition to an already awesome journaling card. And they’re stickers!

Can you tell how excited I was about the stickers?!?

Although I know that the vast majority of people who do Project Life do so in a weekly manner, that just isn’t how I’ve set up my albums. I go more by events and that’s what has worked for me but I do feel like my albums have lacked our day to day happenings. Since most of the pictures that are taken day to day are on Instagram, this new kit has made it easy to add the important little memories to our album.

Although the Just Add Color kit comes packed to the gills with super cute 2×2 cards, I wanted to show a few ways to use them that didn’t involve only placing them in the new 2 inch square pockets. You can use them for so much more! I used them as background patterns on the bottom two cards of this half of the layout. I simply took a blank grid card, cut a 4×4 card in half, and used adhesive to layer it all together.

The stickers added a fun pop of color to the title card I chose.

I added the sticker flags to the bottom of one of the larger Instagram pictures to add a little extra visual interest to a blank white space. Plus, I feel like it draws the eye to one of my favorite pictures of the spread.

The 2×2 filler cards made for a great little pop of color to the background. I was able to make sense of a picture of my daughter’s hair with the journaling, but didn’t lose any of the cuteness I was looking for.

I have a kind-of confession: I’ve never used any stamps in my Project Life layouts. When I first set out on the Project Life for Beginners series, I had planned to have at least one post dedicated to how to incorporate all kinds of stamps into your spreads, but I chickened out. Crazy, right? I finally gathered up enough courage to use one of the Dear Lizzy date stamps and I’m in love now.

If you’re interested, HSN is also going to have a fabulous deal on a set of four stamps similar to the Dear Lizzy one on September 17 too. Keep an eye out for them!

Here’s the real draw to the Just Add Color kit for me: I can add oodles of random Instagram pictures in the specially designed plastics that don’t necessarily require journaling or an explanation. The pictures I added are simply photographs of moments that made me smile.

One thing about the Just Add Color kit that I love but you ca’t see here is that each 2×2 filler card has the same design on both sides of the card; one side is in a bright fun color, perfect for matching with the Honey or Kraft kits and the other side is done in muted tones like grays and black, which makes it ideal to coordinate with Midnight.

Aren’t those tiny little pictures just the cutest? If you’re curious about how I printed all of those tiny ones out, you can check out the All About Photos tutorial I put together.

Are you in love with the Just Add Color kit as much as I am? Since it’s exclusive to HSN and since there are limited quanities, it’s expected to sell out quickly. If this is something you’d like to have, don’t wait to get your kit. It’d be a huge bummer to miss out on all this awesomeness!
