I was sure we had a tool in our garage to cut the steel to fit an 8″ x 10″ frame. I’m extremely clumsy with sharp tools and was a little concerned when I noticed the sticker on the back of the metal. Luckily there were no injuries while working on this project.
I wasn’t able to find a tool at home to cut the steel so I decided to try using a dull pair of scissors before going back to the hardware store. The scissors worked perfectly. I carefully rolled the excess metal as I was cutting.
Instead of covering the metal in fabric I chose to use lace. The look of the frame will change completely depending on the fabric you choose.
I covered the metal and then carefully inserted it into the frame.
I replaced the piece of cardboard on the back of the frame because it helped hold the backing against the metal tightly. I didn’t want the lace to stretch or pull.
You can use store bought magnets or make your own. I used foam stickers and embellished brads.
I thought the flowers looked silly until I added the pretty brads.
I used hot glue to attach felt to the back of the flowers and then glued on the magnets.
You could easily personalize this gift with different magnets. If you don’t want the frame to be too specific you could always just add a fun picture. I’m looking forward to going through old photos to make some fun frames for all the girls on my holiday gift list!
How fun and different is this with the lace – so cute!
I just went back to this post and used it to make a fun teacher appreciation week gift!
