I’m always on the hunt for good, family-friendly movies that both the kids and adults alike can enjoy. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked {rated G} fits those criteria not only because it’s a cartoon that I grew up watching and loved, but also because it’s filled to the brim with hilarious one-liners that keep the adults as entertained as the kidlets.
I set last night in search of our local Blockbuster Express, and after a small hiccup in the process that was totally my fault, I headed home with the movie in hand. You can read all about my adventure/shopping trip here. You can find closest local Blockbuster Express by visiting their website, Facebook page, and/or their Twitter page.
My kids had been talking about “Chipmunks” all day, so as soon as I returned home, the movie was started. Because it was G rated, I knew that I didn’t have to pay special attention for parts that I might consider inappropriate for my two-year-old. Actually, she was the one who was more excited all day and although this movie held her attention for longer than what is normal for her, it was my four-year-old who ended up most excited by the end.
Alvin and the Chipmunks is a family filmed recreated from a popular 80’s cartoon. It centers around the lives of world-famous singing chipmunks and their adoptive father, Dave. In this film, Dave and the chipmunks are off on a vacation when the hijinks of the chipmunks get them lost on a deserted island. I won’t give too much more away, but Luke was intensely focused on the treasure and the volcano.
I’m lucky enough to be a part of the #couchcritics team where I get to review and rate movies. Over all, this movie was great and I’d easily give it 4 out of 5 couches. The only thing that got to me, as a parent, was the chipmunk voices. They can get to be a little much after nearly 90 minutes. Other than that, I have no complaints. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked flowed well, had a solid plot line, was age appropriate, and was a crowd pleaser for the kidlets. That makes for a great success in my momma book!
Because both Luke and Reagan liked the movie so much, I thought incorporating a craft that can help them re-tell the story using their Learning Center would be a great idea. Why not always try to tie a learning opportunity in?!?
Materials:
brown felt * green felt
scissors * Elmer’s CraftBond Tacky Glue
Are you ready for super simple? Free hand cut a palm tree trunk and three to four leaves per tree. Use the tacky glue to adhere the leaves to the trunk. Use one of the scrap green felt pieces to glue a support strip to the back. Let it dry and they are ready for use!
I love that my kidlets love to craft! They were happy that they were going to have trees to mimic the island, so much so, that I see a volcano and a treasure chest being made in our near future!

Looks like a great movie for the kiddos! Love the craft too!
How great to add fun stuff to your learning center! Really shows that there can be teachable moments in everything.
So cute. I can see the next crafts coming. Great to know its was a fun movie for all.
