Living Room Makeover: The Before

The first time I lived on my own for real {not in a college dorm} was when I was 21 and got married. I was a baby! All of the decor that is in our formal area are items that we either purchased or were gifted when we were first married nearly nine years ago. I’m at the point now where I know that it’s time for a living room makeover; I think it’s actually a necessity.

I’m over the palm trees and the olive green drapes. Painting all of the walls beige seemed like a fabulous idea when we first moved to this home, but now all I see is blah.

The arches make for a fun architectural detail, but they’re being lost in the sea of tan and boring. Our tables are also getting a little worse from the wear thanks to Luke’s car races that are held there on a regular basis.

I think that the room has good bones and I’m still really loving the furniture that we have. The couches are easily the most comfortable ones I’ve ever sat in and we had the kitchen table made, so we’ll be keeping both of those. Everything else? I’m not sold, nor am I attached to anything else enough to have to keep it.

Here’s the fun part that I need your help with now! I’ve come up with two different color schemes that I’m trying to decide between: bolder or safer.

This is the color way that I’m leaning towards. I like the navy, coral (even though the picture looks pink, it’s coral), and green colors plus the graphic fabrics with lots of texture.

The girl who put together a home almost entirely of beige (me) is also scared enough of color to think this might be a safer way to go. I know there isn’t much difference, but I’d probably paint the top third of the walls in the first option navy and the top third of the walls in the second option gray.

So…what do you think I should do for my living room makeover? Which way would you go: bright and bold or safe and soft?

I like your second color pallette, but I LOVE the swatch of green textured fabric in the first. The first is okay too, but I like the pop of yellow better than the pop of pink. Just my two cents! Can’t wait to see what you do with the place!!

I like the first option. Love the green, and gray you have there. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

I vote for the first set of colors, but with very limited coral. I think you’d be very overwhelmed with the brightness of the blue in the second set.

I really like the first choice of colors -but just using a small amount of coral. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together!

I love the second set of color choices, however, pulling the green swatch from up above would benefit your color selection. Maybe paint the walls a grey and choose a secondary color to accentuate, leaving the other colors for your accessories. Oh what fun, my mind is racing.

Where did you find the yellow and gray swatch, on the bottom picture? I’m searching for the right fabric for some pillows and that very well may be it!

I found it at Joann’s in the Home Decor fabric. Hope it’s still there for you!
