Holiday Handmade: Christmas Countdown Board from Lolly Jane

Hi Sweet Rose readers! We are so excited to be here today visiting you all! We love Miss Katie! We met her way back in junior high…if you follow either of our blogs, you’ll know that was well over 15 years ago now!! We just love Katie to pieces! And we’re excited to be sharing our countdown board with you all for her Holiday Handmade Series! It’s a great gift to give as it can be used year round or perfect to keep on your own mantel too!

But first we want to quickly introduce ourselves. We’re Kristi and Kelli from Lolly Jane! A DIY/Home Improvement blog full of tips and tricks from painting furniture to crafting and even a tasty dessert along the way. We love sharing our tutorials!

Today we will be showing you how to make a super cute and easy countdown board can be made for under five dollars! We’re always on the hunt for easy and inexpensive creations, gotta save the real money for Christmas shopping! (; This really is such a simple and easy sign to get ready for the holidays!

Supplies:

  • Wood (16″ x 16″, cut down from MDF from Home Depot)
  • Vinyl/stencil
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Fabric scraps & ribbon
  • Sand Paper
  • Spray Polyurethane Sealer

Directions: Begin by cutting your piece of wood. I got mine at Home Depot in a 4’x8′ sheet and cut it down to 16″ x 16″ so it costs less than $2/board! Paint the front of your board white and let it dry.

Then you design, cut and weed your vinyl. The technique can be found here, we use our cutter as a stencil instead of using vinyl colors. [Font for “DAYS UNTIL” is Rio Grande, the flower was this font and we cut the rectangle at the same time we cut our stencil.]

We then used a light gray for DAYS UNTIL and chalkboard vinyl for the flower and rectangle. Pretty darn easy since the machine does all the work for you! After it’s dry, poly it and you’re good to go!

Pretty easy! Pair it with our bakers twine and washi tape garland plus our newest craft, our felt scalloped Christmas trees, you’ve got instant cheap and easy Christmas decor! If you’re looking for more cute and inexpensive holiday creations, be sure to check out our Christmas decor and goods! Come on over to Lolly Jane to say hi anytime!! You can also find us on Facebook HERE and Pinterest HERE. Would love to see you! And THANKS again, Katie, for having us! xo
