Happy Project Life Saturday y’all!
I’m thrilled to have you here for another week of the series Project Life for Beginners. If this is your first time here with us, you’ll want to check out this page to catch up on past posts. Let’s dig right in!

This week has been a whirlwind. The recovery from SNAP was a little more intense than I remember last year; I know I got a little less sleep, but I feel like age is starting to catch up with me. It’s not even that I’m that old, but I can definitely tell a difference! It was such a breath of fresh air to get a few hours to sit and work on my Project Life album. It’s a time when I can focus on something that benefits my family, but allows me a creative outlet that is a great stress-reliever. Is Project Life refreshing to you too?
This week in my Project Life layouts I added another style of embellishments: twine and ribbon. Twine and ribbon aren’t scary, right? I feel like they add another dimension to my layouts and they easily coordinate with the Jade Edition that I already have.
first layout
This week’s layouts are kind of all over the place. There are a bunch of recent events in our lives that I wanted to make sure were documented, even if there weren’t enough pictures to fill an entire layout. The beauty of working with a core edition like Jade is that no matter the pictures, your layouts will always coordinate!
The first half of this layout is dedicated to Reagan and her sassiness, the time when she mastered the “thumbs up” in particular.
The pop of red twine pulls in the red from the polka dot card beneath it. I simply wrapped the twine around the card and tied it off.
Because I was still excited about using my Thickers, I added those as well to the title card and if you follow me on Instagram at all, you know that I lovingly call Reagan sassy pants so it was a match made in Project Life heaven.
For the other side of the layout, I used one of the pre-tied bows from the Maggie Holmes line of scrapbooking products. If you aren’t someone who is adept at tying bows or if you’d like to save yourself time with still having the cuteness, these are a great option.
Aren’t they so sweet?
second layout
Sometimes, you just need simple. Even more simple than you’d really ever think. Ribbon-looking stickers are a great alternative.
Have you noticed yet how much I love simple? I’m not sure I’ve even used that word enough these past few weeks: simple. These Pebbles stickers add a punch of color and send the right message I was looking for.
third layout
For some reason, I’ve been wanting to complete a purely black and white layout. It feels clean and crisp and really plays to the heart of the layout: the pictures of my sweet girl.
The gorgeous velvet scallop ribbon from American Crafts just makes me so happy. To achieve this look, I trimmed off the bottom of the Jade edition card and layered a piece of the ribbon on top. Everything else is just about Reagan and her time dancing in the wind.
The final spread for this week isn’t really about one specific point in time, but more as a chance for me to let my kidlets know their importance in our lives. This was the first time I actually used the Bi-fold Journaling Cards as it was actually intended. I love that I have a secret little message just for my sweet babies hidden away, waiting for them to find it some day in the future.
Update: I had a reader ask about the larger picture on the right side of the Explore layout and I thought it’d be nice if I explained how I made that happen. We’re all beginners here or game for learning something new, right? I printed this picture off as an 8″ x 12″ print at my local Costco and trimmed 2 inches off the sides to make it 6″ wide. From there, I simply cut the picture into the sizes to fit the pockets of my page. The top picture is a 6″ x 4″ picture, the middle parts are each 3″ x 4″, and the bottom picture is another 6″ x 4.” It isn’t a super difficult thing to accomplish, but it sure does pack a punch!
A touch of twine and a few more Thickers and this layout was complete.
I hope you’re enjoying these Project Life posts as much as I have. It’s been almost therapeutic getting a chance to preserve my family’s memories in a way that I love and believe in.
It’s time for our weekly homework assignment! If you’d like, try completing at least one layout using twine or ribbon. See if you can complete three layouts this week to keep the progress going!
As always, I’d also love to share some of the work of those who are following along! If you’d like to have your pages featured, e-mail me the images and a brief description at katie {at} sweetrosestudio {dot} com.
I was provided product from American Crafts, but all opinions and ideas are 100% my own. I just love the Project Life products that much!

Can you please explain how you were able to split the picture of your son into different pockets? Like what size is the photo and into what dimensions do I cut them in? Thanks! Love this weeks spreads! I hope mine come out as creative as yours!
Hi Angelica! I’ve updated the post with a how-to of how to recreate the large picture layout. Sometimes I totally forget that not everyone may totally understand what I’ve done and that I need to be more clear in my directions. Thanks for the reminder!
Okay wow…this anti-scrapper actually wants to try this now!! LOVE!
You totally should! It’s way easier than traditional scrapbooking and you still end up with preserved memories!
Hi Katie! I oooohhhh-ed out loud when I saw your black and white layouts. I LOVE b&w but have been hesitant to include in my PL. This post gives me the motivation to do it. Thanks for the push. I like the idea of wrapping a card in twine.
I have been printing my photos through Shutterfly and have been printing a bunch then deciding how to include in PL. I feel like I am doing this backwards. Do you plan your layout before you print?
Thanks for keeping me going with PL by assigning the homework. I am going to email you my winter sledding layout as soon as I finish a few more things with it.
