Happy Project Life Saturday y’all!
I’m thrilled to have you here for another week of the series Project Life for Beginners. If this is your first time here with us, you’ll want to check out this page to catch up on past posts. Let’s dig right in!
***
I don’t know about all of you, but Project Life is becoming the project that I turn too when I’m stressed or when I need inspiration or when I just need a brain break. Project Life has become healthy for my soul. I love that I’m preserving precious moments in my family’s lives and I love that I’m getting to do it creatively. And what I love most is that my children and my other family members love checking in to see the progress that I’ve been making. It makes every single second I work on this matter.
This week is one that I’ve been looking forward to for awhile now. Like, ever since I started this Project Life for Beginners series. Friends…this week we work with washi tape. Can I get a collective YES?!?
If you’ve never worked with washi tape or weren’t sure how to use it, Project Life is a great starting point. Simply put, washi tape is a decorative style of masking tape that can add a quick pop of color or pattern to your layouts. I’ve purchased washi tape from Target, deal sites like Pick Your Plum, and even online shops dedicated just to all things washi like DownTown Tape and Wishy Washi. I think I love washi tape so much purely because of it’s ease of use. Tear of a piece and put it on your project. That’s it!
Layout One
You may remember a lot of these pictures from my Creating Joy post that I wrote. The moments I spent with my kids, seeing the pure joy of imagination and creativity all rolled into one ball of awesome needed to be documented in a more concrete for: my Project Life album. When I printed the photos out, however, I accidentally printed one that still had my blog watermark on it. No bueno.
My solution? Washi tape. See that sweet line of birds across the bottom of the picture of Reagan? It’s totally covering up the watermark and doing a fine job of it.
And although this week’s focus is washi tape, I can’t help myself but add a few extra embellishments here and there. I’m still in love with these sweet bows from Maggie Holmes so I had to use them again. Doesn’t it just add the right punch of color to the page?
See what I mean about washi tape adding just the right amount of awesome to a layout?
Layout Two
You’ve also seen these pictures as well; they’re straight from Luke’s Train Party we held a few weeks back. Of course this event was going to make it into the album and I love the little twists I added to make it special.
More washi tape (duh!), but what I really love is how the patterns of the tape coordinate with and complement the Jade edition cards and the patterns of his party.
Did you happen to notice those random 3×4 cards in the middle of the layout? Those are actually some of his favorite birthday cards that he received. I trimmed them down to fit in the pockets and made sure to write who they were from on the back so he’d have the reminder in the future.
Also, I may have tried to pick the cards that also coordinated with the colors from his party and the layout… 😉
Layout Three
Let me tell you something that my OB/GYN says to me on a regular basis when I’m pregnant: everything in moderation. Although I’ve heard it so many times and I tend to cringe when I hear it now, it’s actually got some great truth to it. Just because I have enough washi tape to last forever, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I need to use it on every single layout. In fact, there aren’t any embellishments on this page. I let the pictures do the talking.
On one of the journaling cards, I added simple facts about Luke. It’ll be fun to look back on these in years to come and see how his tastes have changed.
I’m enjoying the bi-fold cards more and more. There’s a sweet little note just for my special little guy inside. It’s great that I can add more words than I have space for with these.
So how was your week? Are you keeping up on your homework? Try to get three more layouts finished this week and I’ll see you back here next Saturday!
As always, I’d also love to share some of the work of those who are following along! If you’d like to have your pages featured, e-mail me the images and a brief description at katie {at} sweetrosestudio {dot} com.
I was provided product from American Crafts, but all opinions and ideas are 100% my own. I just love the Project Life products that much!
