Happy Project Life Saturday y’all!
I’m thrilled to have you here for another week of the series Project Life for Beginners. If this is your first time here with us, you’ll want to check out this page to catch up on past posts. Let’s dig right in!

Sometimes, as much as I’m ashamed to admit it, I judge a book by its cover. It’s a bad bad habit that I have. In fact, when I first saw the previews and card samples of the brand new Project Life Vintage Travel kit, I thought I’d immediately pass right over it. I didn’t think I’d like the colors or the vintage-y feel or the map styling.
Oh wow, was I ever wrong.
Ladies, I am in LOVE.
I have a natural affinity for all things pink and girly and fabulous. If you ask my mom, she can totally vouch that I’ve been that way since birth, so of course the majority of the kits that I have in my possession tend to skew feminine. Maybe that was my initial hang up with the Vintage Travel kit. The browns, deep reds, and navy’s aren’t my typical cup of tea, but my mind has been changed. I guess the moral of this week’s Project Life for Beginners story? Try new things and push yourself out of your usual comfort zone.
I dare you. 😉
We recently went on our first family camping trip and the Vintage Travel kit was the perfect match. Those colors that I was hesitant about ended up being exactly what this memory needed.
Layout One
Lately, Luke has taken to letting us know that worms are his favorite creature. I’m kind of grossed out, but he is amazed by them. Our first stop on our trip was to a family friend’s nursery and he searched for worms for a solid hour and watched over these worms the entire weekend. Naturally, I dedicated an entire spread to his beloved worms.
Don’t you love all of the colors? It screams boy to me. And really, I was completely sold once I saw polka dots. It’s the perfect combination of masculine colors and momma’s favorite pattern.
The only embellishment I added on the two pages were simple cork Thickers. That is exactly why I love Project Life so much; you don’t need a load of scrapbooking supplies to complete an album. It requires no scissors, no glue, no tools and no skills of any kind. Really all you need is the album, plastics, a core kit, and a pen. Done.
Doesn’t my little man look do incredibly happy? Even though camping isn’t my favorite thing ever, we will be definitely be doing it again just to see him so happy.
Layout Two
With Project Life, I can also push myself and use more advanced scrapbooking skills. There are no rules so you’re free to work to whatever level you’d like!
I could not get over the sheer beauty of the location we were camping, so I knew I had to blow up up the scenery and make it the centerpiece of our time camping. I simply had the photo printed to 8″ x 12″ and trimmed it to fit the pockets.
I really wanted to make sure that I captured the small details while camping and this side of the spread really highlights that.
There were so many fun little stories that I wanted to tell and I was getting a little overwhelmed with the amount of words that you could see at first sight. The folded cards solved my dilemma and added some extra fun to the layout.
The story of the invasive cows on our campsite is now forever saved within my family’s album. Yes, cows.
Layout Three
Fishing was one of the main reasons we went camping in the first place and it didn’t disappoint. Each kidlet was able to catch multiple fish and were happy as can be.
Aren’t they the cutest with their fish?
Poor Luke was kind of traumatized at first. He was convinced that we were catching fish to take home as pets. Sadly, that was not the case.
Hey look! Mom and Dad made it in the pictures too! Please please make sure that you make it in at least some of the pictures of your family too. You are part of the memories too!
So are you all ready to run out and get your own Vintage Travel kit?!? It’s a kit made exclusively for Michaels, a store that has one of the largest selections of Project Life with two exclusive kits and several exclusive albums. I also happen to own the other exclusive kit, 5th & Frolic (I seriously have an obsession), and the light blues, pinks, greens, yellows and airy neutrals are gorgeous. The distressed feel to the kit has my name written all over it.
It’s homework time! Try to complete three more layouts this week. I’d love to know in the comments though, what kit is next on your list to purchase?
As always, I’d also love to share some of the work of those who are following along! If you’d like to have your pages featured, e-mail me the images and a brief description at katie {at} sweetrosestudio {dot} com.

Thank you SO much Sandy! You’re too sweet!
Your layouts look great! You’re right, these colors worked so well with this set of pictures!
I didn’t choose this kit because of the non-fab colors as well, but it is PERFECT for little boys! Beautiful work.
Thanks Sarah! I bet this would be a perfect match for Callum. Luke is in love with the trains on some of the cards!
Very cute pages. I didn’t think Vintage Travel was or me either but after seeing your pages, I’m going to have to reconsider.
I’m ashamed to tell you how long it’s been since I’ve put together a scrapbook page…now it’s almost overwhelming how much I need to catch up on! I haven’t tried project life yet but it looks like exactly what I need to get motivated again! Thanks!
These are adorable! Such precious memories too.
