Creating Holiday Joy with Glade ®

The long-awaited holiday season is approaching quickly and it’s time to put some serious thought into how you’ll be creating that holiday joy in your home. There are oodles of ways that you can inject that cozy, festive feeling in your own space; with the help of Glade®, I’ve put together a list of five of the ways that I personally focus my decorating to make sure I capture that much-anticipated Christmas cheer.

Creating Holiday Joy with Glade

1. Include Christmases past.

One way that I love injecting the holiday spirit is by including photographs and projects from previous years. There’s nothing like seeing those precious screaming Santa pictures scattering your mantle or having the hand print ornaments your kidlets made at school adorning your tree. The actual pictures and projects many not be perfect, but the memories that they represent are. Embrace them!

2. Make your family (yes, your kids too) involved with decorating.

If you are anything like me, you’d rather decorate your home solo style for Christmas so you can get it done quickly and get it done right. Here’s the thing, though: your family will feel much more invested if they get to help with the process. Now, I’m not saying that you should let your toddler set out the priceless glass snow globes, but try to get them involved with age-appropriate activities. And if you’ve got kids of the crafty sort? Let them make a construction paper wreath or stocking to hang in their own room. They’ll eat that stuff up!

3. Details matter.

It’s easy to get swept up in the awesomeness of your Christmas tree and hanging the stockings on your mantle (or strategically placed shelf should you not have a fireplace like myself), but I want you to remember the small stuff too. Bake cookies. Light a special candle. Read Christmas stories together each night. Take a walk around your neighborhood to check out the lights.

4. Make it personal.

Sure, snowmen and Santa are quintessentially Christmas, but why not inject yourself in a few places too? Instead of a standard tinsel garland, try making a garland of small photos of you and your family. Sure, the holiday pictures would be nice to include, but why not also include some of your favorite moments from the year too? Another fun idea: have each child make a new ornament each year that uses some part of their body (hand print, foot print, whatever) and have them write their fave Christmas memory from that year on the back before you pack it away. This will be a way you can show growth and remember special moments in years to come.

5. Use your senses.

A sure fire way to create the Holiday joy in your home is to make everyone use their five senses. Spend some quality time together baking and tasting some of your traditional holiday treats. Take your kids to a local Christmas show or attraction to see Christmas lights and hear the music of the season. Though they may be little, help your sweet kiddos in touching and feeling the decor in your home including your tree, the wreaths, the table decor, everything. Make a big effort to include candles that have scents just for the holidays so they can smell the deliciousness that comes along with the month of December.
