One Time, When I Was Pregnant… Bug Off!

Ladies. I mean.

I have literally been laughing so hard the past couple of days at some of the stories of hilarious hormonal meltdowns that have been left in the comments and sent to me through email. I’m so happy that we can sympathize with each other’s crazy pregnant lady stories! {If you haven’t read mine yet, you can find it HERE.}

Like I promised, I’m going to be sharing some of the funniest stories that have been sent my way. Today’s installment of the One Time, When I Was Pregnant… series was sent to me by Sweet Rose Studio reader, Nicole. When I started snorting while reading her story, I just knew y’all had to hear this one.

One Time When I Was Pregnant Bug Off

I need to preface with the fact that the summer I was pregnant we had a big of a June Bug problem. If you don’t know what a June Bug is, they are nasty beetles about the size of a quarter that have barbed legs so they can stick to everything. If we would forget to turn off our porch light, we would find a ton of them on climbing all over our screen door.

The morning our story took place, we had forgotten to turn off the porch light that night, so we had June bugs all over our front step and screen door.  I had to drop my husband off at the bus stop before going to work, but I was very careful when going past these stupid bugs because I was totally freaked out by them. I made it to the car safely.

When we arrived at my husband’s bus stop, I leaned over to give him a kiss, and as I did I looked down. On his clothes was a huge June bug. It must have latched on to him when we was leaving the house, obviously not as carefully as I did. I did the normal “girl sees bug” scream, but then it got worse. I just started to cry. My husband hopped out of the car, got the bug off of him and got back in to try to calm me down. When he leaned in close to me, I freaked out, and jumped out of the car, and proceeded to cry harder. People were looking at us at this point.
Like any good, and completely confused, husband of a mother-to-be, he tried to console me. I finally calmed down a little bit. He told me that he needed to go so he wouldn’t miss his bus and I needed to head to work. That is when I went into a total melt down. I was convinced there were more bugs in the car, just waiting for me. I was sort of half sobbing, half yelling, with some tantrum-throwing arm shaking. I just knew I would not be able to drive in that car. There had to be bugs waiting to ambush me.
In the end, level heads prevailed. My husband’s, not mine. He knew I wasn’t going to get into that car until he had searched it for bugs and finally decided looking would be faster than trying to convince me I would be OK. After the search, I finally decided I could drive to work and he could catch his bus. (my other option was to be stuck in the parking lot of the bus stop until he came home 9 hours later.)
I was tense, jumpy, and bawling the whole way to work, but I made it. I even called my husband to tell him it was fine and there were no bugs. He said something like, “I am glad to hear it.”  I am sure he was really thinking, “When did my wife because this crazy lady?”
Even as I am writing this, I am totally embarrassed about my full blown freak out. I can only imagine what the people waiting at the bus stop thought. At least I can blame pregnancy hormones on this one. 🙂
