Decorative DIY Jewelry Box

My sweet daughter is the epitome of all things girly and fabulous. I not-so-secretly adore every second of her playing dress-up and doing her sassy jazz walks everywhere we go. The only issue that I’m having with it right now is that she’s beginning to accumulate ridiculous amounts of “pretties” as we call them: necklaces, bracelets, and hair goodies. It was finally time to make something that could contain at least some of the awesomeness she owns and with that, I present a tutorial for the sweetest little Decorative DIY Jewelry Box.

I was recently given the opportunity to review Mod Podge’s newest line of products: Collage Clay. It’s a super neat product that has a lot of awesome uses. If you’d like to read my full review, you can check it out at Craft Test Dummies.

Let’s get started!

Materials:

MOD PODGE Collage Clay, Strawberry Pink

MOD PODGE Drizzle Paint

Paper Mache Round Box

decorative rose button

white acrylic paint

foam paintbrush

Directions:

1. Using the floral decorative tip, start applying the Collage Clay to the center of the box lid. Create a nice thick circle as this is what will hold the rose button in place.

2. Place the button in the center and then use the other decorative tips to finish adorning the rest of the lid. I’m typically a minimalist type of crafter, but this product works really well when you use more of it. Just check out that texture!

3. While the Collage Clay is still wet, use the Collage Drizzle Paints to add a little extra to the lid. I used a swirly pattern and added a few extra polka dots to ours.

4. The directions on the package state to let your Collage Clay project to dry for a full 48 to 72 hours and I completely concur with this. It’ll be mostly dry after 24 hours but not dry enough for little hands.

5. Finish your jewelry box by painting the base of the box with the white acrylic paint. Make sure that the paint also dries fully before placing the lid back on.
