Since I’ve started working with the Cricut Explore a few months back and had a Silhouette for years prior to that, I’ve gotten the same question time and again: Which machine is better? Now, I know that this is really a personal decision and preference, but I’m going to share with you my reasons for sticking with the Cricut Explore from this point forward.
Make sure to stick around to the end because I’m sharing a SWEET Black Friday deal on the Cricut Explore!
1. It cuts, scores, and writes.
Yep, my friends, it does all of those things. I know that the Silhouette can do all of those things as well, but with the Cricut, you can easily use any of your own pens and you don’t have to switch between cutting and the pens. The machine has two separate spaces for each of the materials.
2. It’s super precise with it’s cuts.
I’m not joking here. I’ve cut some itty bitty little images with the Cricut and I’ve not had any issues with distortion or poor cuts. I was amazed really at how accurate the images were.
3. The Cricut cloud of awesomeness
With the Silhouette design software, you can create images and cut files from anywhere — you don’t need an internet signal. That sounds fine and dandy, but what about if your computer takes a nose dive or you need to cut something from someone else’s computer? You can’t. You’re stuck.
Cricut Design Space is all online. While that means that you do need the internet to create, it also means that you can access your designs from anywhere there’s a computer. Yep — anywhere. The Cricut cloud keeps all of your designs for you in one nice, neat little spot so you can get to them from your computer or your BFF’s computer that lives way across the country.
4. Fonts, Fonts, and more Fonts
Y’all know by now that I have a soft spot in my heart for all things font-related. I easily have thousands of fonts loaded on to my computer because I never know when I’ll need just the right one for my next project or printable. I like options; what can I say?
With the Cricut Design Space, I can easily use every single one of the fonts I have loaded on my computer when I’m creating a new cut file. I’m not limited to what they provide me with. I love that!
5. What does it cut?
I think the question should almost be what does the Cricut NOT cut? This is one of the biggest selling points to me over the Silhouette: it can cut a crazy amount of crafting surfaces! Think I’m totally messing with you? Check out this comprehensive list of things the Explore can cut. I’ll save the told-you-so for later.
6. No strings attached
I have a decent sized desk to work out but with all of the creative chaos going on on a regular basis, there isn’t always space for my computer *plus* the cutting machine of my choice and all the wires and cords that go along with it. Cricut offers a wireless Bluetooth adapter so you can remotely cut your images. Holla!
7. Cartridges? We don’t need no stinking cartridges!
Have you loved your other Cricut cutting machines for years and have the cartridges to prove it? With the Explore, you can load all of the images you already own on the cartridges into your Design Space so you don’t lose out on them. You can still use them on the new machine without any issue.
8. And I’ll take this one, and this one, and this one…
You don’t need cartridges for the Explore! With Design Space having over 25,000 images and counting, the $9.99 monthly subscription is a fabulous deal. Of course, you can also buy single images as you need them *or* if you’re really fancy and know how to work in design programs like Photoshop or Illustrator, you can easily upload and use any of your .jpg, .svg, and .png images.
9. There’s an app for that
Cricut is launching a brand spankin’ new FREE app in January that is a companion to Cricut Design Space! Remember how I was telling you earlier about that fantastic Cricut cloud? Now you’ll even be able to create images on your iPad and with that cloud, you’ll be able to open them and cut them from your computer at a later time. Suh-weet! You’ll now have the freedom to design where and when you want. Want more details on the app? Go HERE!
10. Because they said so
So I know that I’ve been going on and on about why I think the Explore is the cutting machine to beat, but you don’t have to take just my word for it. Experts at a third-party independent lab ran the Cricut and the Silhouette through the ringer and came up with some serious results. Not only did they confirm that the Explore can cut more materials, but they also found that the Explore cuts with more consistency too. Who doesn’t want a reliable machine that cuts exactly what you want it to?
So there you have it: 10 of my reasons why I love the Cricut Explore and have chosen it over the Silhouette. Think you want to get one of your own now too? Black Friday through Cyber Monday is the time to do it!
