I love a good party and with the holiday season in full swing, there is definitely no shortage of great shin digs to host and attend. Here’s the thing, though: hosting these soirees can get pricey fast. Because I’ve hosted a party –or ten– myself, I’m excited to share my favorite holiday party theme for this year *plus* three of my favorite budget-saving tips to make your holiday party a success!
Tip #1: Make the food yourself.
Now, I know that putting together all of the food and desserts for your guests isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but this is easily the best way to save your hard-earned dollars and when you use simple recipes, it takes a ton of the stress out of the process.
I found some of my fave recipes for my party from Nabisco. I love the signature holiday recipes they’ve put together and used their Holiday Cheesecake Presents with the Honey Maid Graham Crackers as one of the key desserts that I’ll be offering.
Don’t they look absolutely delicious? My hands-down favorite part was that they were ridiculously simple to make. The Holiday Cheesecake Presents didn’t require any of the typical headache associated with a cheesecake recipe and were equally as yummy.
One more recommendation about food before we move on: If you find a recipe that you like, but you don’t necessarily want to follow every single step as its written, don’t be afraid to change things up a little! Because I have a devout love for anything Oreo related, I was immediately drawn to the Melting Snowman Cookie Balls. Who wouldn’t be?! I wanted a more glam vibe for my party, so in lieu of making the cookie balls look like the cute little snowmen they were intended to be (which would be perfect for a kids’ party), I chose to add a little bit of pearlized sprinkles on top instead. It’s still essentially the same recipe with a twist of me.
Tip #2: Don’t stress.
You’re probably thinking: How does stress relate to my budget? Right? I don’t blame you!
Seriously though, I have a habit of stressing out over if I’ve decorated enough, if I’ve made everything look perfect, if I’ve purchased enough food, if my guests will be entertained, etc. I could literally go on and on about all the things that I stress about and you know what? No one but me has ever noticed any of the things that I worry about.
Take this cake below:
I would have absolutely loved to purchase a professionally made cake to wow my guests, but instead of letting that put a weight on me and my budget, I made the best of my own cake. I simply piped white candy melts onto waxed paper, sprinkled sugar on top, and placed them on the cake after they were cooled to hide all of the imperfections of the homemade cake.
Tip #3: Find a theme and stick with it.
When putting together the decor items for an event, it’s SO easy to get carried away. I’ve been known to go a smidge overboard when purchasing all of the pieces that I think will set the tone for my guests. Here’s the thing: before you go shopping, raid your stash first and do a little research before you head out to the stores. I’ve built up quite the arsenal of white dishes at this point and everything else I already had on hand. Had I gone shopping before looking through what I had in my storage, I’d have had duplicates of a bunch of stuff and spent much more than necessary.
Also, checking stores online along with sites like Amazon, you can compare prices to hopefully get the best deal. Spend some quality time checking things out to save you some quality money.
When it all comes down to it, have fun! That is the most important part of any party and you’re guests will have a memorable time.
