Sometimes you just have a room that gets neglected in your home. You know, the one that you never get around to decorating because you lose steam after the main rooms are all finished and pretty. For my BFF, that room was her guest room. Her husband’s family is all out of town so her guest room gets used pretty often. She’s always wanted to make the space a bit more home-y for visitors, but just didn’t know where to start. This is where I jumped in! With a few key furniture pieces from Sauder and some simple accessorizing, we completed this guest room makeover in no time flat!
Let’s start things off with the before picture:
I could pin point an exact time in her life when each of these pieces were acquired and I can also tell you that none of them come from a similar time which is why none of them coordinate with each other. To start this makeover, we cleared everything out of the room with the exception of the bed. The dresser, lamp, and kids’ gear were all moved out to bring some pretty in.
Here’s a good shot of the after:
I’m in love with the after! We wanted to stick with a pretty neutral palette of colors and aim for a modern farmhouse kind of vibe. Everything works together to make one cozy, unifying space that will be welcoming to any of her family’s future visitors.
The first piece that we added to the guest room is a headboard. I really think a headboard can really anchor a space and spotlight the bed. This particular headboard is awesome because of it’s cream color and because of its versatility. It can blend into so many styles of decor with its clean lines and simple style. We finished the bed off with a few decorative pillows to add some punch.
A side table of some sort is a requirement for any guest room to hold essentials like an alarm clock, a lamp, or a spot to rest your phone overnight. This side table met the two criteria I had for this makeover: affordable and stylish. The wood tones are right on trend and at less than $100, it was well within our budget!
The real show stopper in this room is the large and gorgeous storage wall. Showcase decorative items, family photos, or even extra blankets for your guests in the open shelving. The three large cabinets at the bottom make a great space for stowing less than stunning necessities like towels and extra pillows.
Additionally, because this storage unit and the side table are in the same line of furniture at Sauder, their coordination is a no-brainer.
In case you haven’t been to the Sauder site lately, you’ll definitely want to check out their Look Book where they’ve got some of the top bloggers who have styled some of their most popular pieces. I get stuck there browsing because there are so many inspirational ideas!
