Each year, I take a cue from Ali Edwards and choose one little word that will help guide me through all aspects of my life and while I had grand intentions of already sharing the word I’ve chosen for 2016, I had to take a step back and really let the word sink in and figure out how I was going to let it work in my life. I’m so glad that I finally get to share my one little word of 2016: FOCUS.
My husband will be the first to tell you that I can be the most all-over the place person he has ever met and this blog is a reflection of that. While some people can narrow what they enjoy doing to one singular thing, I’m just not built for that. I love recipes and crafts and printables and Project Life and so many other things; so many things, in fact, that I can tend to get overwhelmed. This year, I’d really like to focus on creating tips and tricks that can help me stay on my path of growth. I’d like to focus on why I’m even working so hard on Sweet Rose Studio: my family.
My family means everything to me; The Husband and our three sweet babies are my world. I’d happily do anything for them and I need to remember that this year during the hustle and craziness of life. My focus this year needs to be on them. This means more productive work times for me and more strategic time spent on the computer. When the kidlets are around, I want them to remember me as the mom that played games and baked cookies with them, not the one who was not really present behind a computer screen. I want them to know and understand that they are my focus.
After giving it a lot of thought, I’ve also decided that in order to be a better momma and wife, I need to take a little time to focus on myself this year. Motherhood and all of the activities and dinners and cleaning that come along with it make a good case for why I should let myself fall to the wayside. It’s easier to always pay attention to everyone else and to fade into the background, to feel guilty when I try to do something for myself. I spend a quality chunk of time running Reagan to dance, driving Luke to whatever sport is in season, and chasing Sarah around the house now that she’s crazy mobile. It won’t hurt me -or them- to go to dinner with the girls every now and then.
I’m one that is a planner – always have been and always will be. I love coming up with new ideas, crafting the plans, daydreaming about what the best steps would be to put that plan in process…and then, on more occasions than I can count, that’s where the creative train stops. I get so caught up in the ideas that I get too ambitious and give up before I even start. I need to readjust that way of thinking and focus on the entire journey of creating, not just the first step.
And finally, I’d like to focus on YOU for a smidge. After all, I wouldn’t have this little ol’ blog if it weren’t for my loyal readers. I’d like to continue to offer fresh, innovative content with a sprinkle of freebies as a thank you for being here and today is no exception!
I’m sharing these four prints with you so you can hang them and remind you daily about where your focus should be.
