Bedtime can be a slippery slope. Juggling three kids and all of the chaos that comes with that kind of crazy can lead any momma to want to pull her hair out by the end of the night. Thankfully, by implementing a nightly bedtime routine, I’ve been able to eliminate the vast majority of the headache and thank heaven for that! Now I get quality time with my children and get to leave them tucked in peacefully each night.
Step One: Brush.
We all know the importance of dental health and The Husband and I are really trying to instill that same knowledge in our kidlets early. Not only do they brush two times a day, but we make sure that they are using a toothpaste with Anticavity Flouride in it.
Orajel™ PAW Patrol™ products are a great way to transition your little one(s) to fluoride toothpaste to help protect against cavities to keep young teeth and gums healthy.
Step Two: Books.
I absolutely love that my kids are turning into such passionate little readers and I truly believe that reading together each night as a family has been key in that development. Some nights we read a book out loud together, some nights they choose to read books that they’re working on for school. I’m really happy with either option because they are reading either way.
Incorporating fun days that are celebrated throughout the year is another great way to keep kiddos engaged and reading each night. I always try to leave out some book options that go along with any holiday that we may have coming up (Easter, Christmas, etc.) or random days that are awesome (Dr. Seuss’s birthday, National Talk Like a Pirate Day, etc.) to increase their love of the written word. World Read Aloud Day which is on February 24th would be a great time to snuggle up together and read a book together out loud, if you don’t already. Start the tradition!
Technology is a huge part of our society and for our kids as they get older so every now and then, we’ll even read an ebook on our iPad, just to change things up and to let them know that there are many different ways to read a book. Bonus: you can even get this super adorable ebook, The Three Bees, for your family for FREE on the Scholastic Read 2 Me site as part of their Read2Me Tonight!
As a family, you can even take the Read2Me Tonight Challenge to have a chance at winning an Orajel™ PAW Patrol™ Brushers Bundle and a home library of Scholastic’s curated collection of the 100 Best Read-Aloud Books. This challenge runs until March 31st, so make sure to get your entries in before then!
Step Three: Bed.
We round out our bedtime routine with family prayers, a good strong squeeze-y hug, and either myself or The Husband tucking them into their beds. We really want them to go to sleep each night knowing how thankful we are for them and how much we love them.
So that is our bedtime routine in a nutshell, but I’d love to hear if you have any other ideas for activities that we’re missing. Let me know in the comments!
