Safari Party!

This past weekend, I had the honor of hosting my nephew’s first birthday party. I first consulted with my mom and sister-in-law about a month ago about the direction and theme of the party, but after that, I basically had free reign. My nephew, Matthew, has affectionately been nicknamed “Monkey,” so that became the jumping-off point for the party. Instead of just sticking with monkeys, I went with a Safari theme so that the sweet nickname was included, but not the central idea.

But I did need to add a sweet monkey in honor of Matthew to the dessert table! Speaking of the dessert table, it included candy-coated Oreos that had lions, elephants, monkeys, and tigers molded on the tops and cake balls that were created to look more “rustic” to match the Safari theme.

Isn’t he such a cutie? Sure, I may be partial, but I love this kid! I chose to have Matthew’s shirt for eating his cake to have the same colors as the rest of the party, but kept it as a regular shirt so he can wear it after the party too.

Whenever I’m getting ready to design a printable collection for any event or party, my first stop for inspiration and clip art is Cocoa Mint. I love LOVE her work, especially for kid’s parties. I used her Going on Safari clip art set with matching digital papers to create all of the printables for the party including the banner, food labels, and cupcake toppers.

Animal crackers were a perfect addition to the dessert table as a less-sugary option. I used a chocolate brown burlap as the tablecloth and added a runner in a giraffe print to drive home the Safari idea.

Of course, the plates, napkins, and other supplies had to match the party as well. It’s details like those that can really bring a party together!

I personally baked all of the cupcakes myself. Half of the cupcakes were adorned with the cupcake toppers and the other half were placed inside some super-cute animal cupcake wrappers.

Have you met any one year old who can blow out a candle on their own? I haven’t. I thought it was adorable that Matthew’s two older brothers helped him blow out his candle. All three were so excited about it.

I had a great time putting together this party for sweet Matthew. I do need to extend a huge thanks to my mom and SIL for letting me have free reign with this. You ladies rock!

Super cute! Throwing parties is just too much fun. We also call my Son, Monkey (I think most little boys could probably fit the nick name ;) )
and I’ve always wanted to do a monkey party. I love your version of one!

    Thanks for the inspiration!
